Week 1 in New York
Buses: white, always packed with stupid hard-to-find bus stops. The reason why most people drive.
The Subway: a 19 stop daily commute, no rats, clean, also packed.
Skateboarders: the new bike riders. They skate on the road in the traffic (dumb)
Tattoo shops: everywhere, $5 dollars and up. Maybe a future acquisition?
Weird desserts: Ice Cream sandwiches- ice-cream between 2 cookies= sugar overdose
Food obsessions: trail mix and peanut butter M&Ms.
Police officers: lovely (I made friends with one in Queens), armed at all times
Soho: a cooler version of Bond Street, no pigeons (thank God)
Queens on Jamaica avenue: Brixton/Tottenham like. Instead of Afro-Caribbean hair salons, they all seem to be Dominican.
Weather: so mild and sunny
Dr Martens: cheaper here :(
Sports: all about the Superbowl. GO NEW YORK GIANTS.
Fast Food sampling: only Wendy’s so far. Had a bacon cheeseburger that was sweet. Awful but addictive.
New Yorker impression: nice, scarily enthusiastic, fast paced, multi-taskers.
Their view of London fashion: <3 for Christopher Kane/ Dr Martens, interest is growing.
New York Fashion: meh… but learning about Charlotte Ronson, Chris Benz etc.
Fashion DIY attempt: 1- bejewelled shorts. urgently searching for a haberdashery for some spikes.
